Regarding the infant mortality rate...it could indicate more about our persistence in trying to keep alive significantly premature or severely ailing babies that would otherwise be seen as lost causes in countries that lack the money or sophistication of infrastructure to do so. (In said countries, these children would be classified as stillborn.) I'm not trying to disagree with your opinions on health care reform at large, but I do think our infant mortality rate often serves as a fallacious bit of evidence when viewed more deeply in the context of WHY the numbers here are so high. I think it says that we as a nation value the life of premature babies, perhaps considerably more than others.
